Front step installation

Steps that are safe, even and built to last

Front steps take more abuse than any other part of a house: daily traffic, snow, ice melt and freeze-thaw cycles. We build them on an excavated, compacted base, keep every riser the same height so the steps feel natural underfoot, and pitch each tread slightly so water runs off instead of freezing in place.

Most of our steps pair bluestone treads with natural stone veneer or paver risers, matched to your walkway and your house. Where the existing concrete is sound, we can reface it. Where it’s cracked or settling, we remove it and rebuild. Step lights can be built into the risers as part of the job; see landscape lighting.

Questions

Front step FAQs

It depends on the number of steps, their width, the materials and whether the old steps need to be removed. Bluestone and stone veneer cost more than paver steps. We give a free on-site estimate with an itemized quote.

Often, yes. If the concrete is structurally sound, we can cover it with bluestone treads and stone veneer risers. If it’s cracked, settling or pulling away from the house, rebuilding is the better long-term choice.

Some towns require a permit for new or rebuilt steps, especially where they attach to the house. We check your town’s requirements during the estimate.

Bluestone is a dense natural stone that performs well outdoors. Long-term performance depends mostly on the base underneath and on treads that shed water, which is why we pitch every tread.

Yes. Low-voltage LED step lights can be built into paver or stone risers during installation. See our landscape lighting page.

Yes. Every set of steps is backed by our 3-year workmanship warranty, and AQ Masonry LLC is fully insured.
