Restore before you replace

Bring an existing patio, walkway or wall back into shape

Most worn patios and walkways don’t need to be torn out. Joint sand washes out over time, weeds and ants move into the gaps, and pavers start to shift once the joints are empty. If the base underneath is still sound, a deep clean, fresh polymeric sand and a few targeted repairs bring the surface back for much less than new work.

We pressure wash the pavers and joints, clear out old sand and weeds, and lift and reset any low or heaved pavers on a corrected base. Then we sweep in new polymeric sand, compact it into the joints and mist it so it sets firm. If you want the color protected, we finish with a paver sealer. We also repair the masonry around it, from loose wall caps and leaning retaining walls to loose step treads and stone veneer. In Southington, we rebuilt a crumbling retaining wall and redid the decking around a client’s pool.

Questions

Restoration & repair FAQs

Low or empty joints, sand washing out after rain, weeds or ants between pavers and pavers that rock or shift underfoot are all signs. How often it’s needed depends on traffic, shade and how much water runs across the surface.

Usually, yes. We lift the pavers in the low area, correct and compact the base underneath, reset them level and re-sand the joints. If the base has failed across the whole patio, we’ll tell you when a rebuild makes more sense.

Polymeric sand needs dry weather to set, so we schedule around the forecast. Foot traffic is usually fine after about a day, and we’ll give you the cure time for the product we use.

Yes. After cleaning and re-sanding, we can apply a paver sealer to help protect the surface and bring back the color. Sealing is optional. Techo-Bloc recommends waiting at least a year after a new installation before sealing and resealing every three to five years. Sealer needs dry weather to cure, so we schedule it around the forecast.

Yes. We start by looking at how it was built, because the base and drainage decide whether a repair will hold or the same problem will come back.

Loose or missing wall caps, leaning or collapsed retaining wall sections, loose step treads, loose stone veneer and damaged masonry around patios and entrances. Repairs are rebuilt on a proper base with drainage where it’s needed.

It depends on the size of the area, the condition of the joints and base, and what needs repair. We look at it in person and give you a free, itemized quote.
